Toukamachi Bijin Forest
The hills of Matsuguchi are covered with beech trees, each about 90 years old. Their stunning beauty earned them the name “Forest of Beauties.” In the early Showa period, all the trees were cut down for charcoal, leaving the mountain bare. However, one day, the young shoots of the beech trees on this mountain sprouted all at once. The beech forest was then recognized as a habitat for wild birds, leading to the protection of the Beauty Forest. (It is said to be 2°C cooler than the outside air.)
